Departure from Lisbon or Setúbal
Near Lisbon, the Tagus Estuary is Portugal’s main wetland for birdwatching and one of Europe’s main areas for wintering and migratory passage of birds.
With different habitats including salt marshes, salt pans, lagoons, agricultural fields and cork oak forests, a large number of species can be observed in a single day, with particular emphasis on waders, ducks and other aquatic birds. Flamingos, Glossy Ibis and Godwits stand out for their enormous numbers. In the surrounding forests we will also see birds of prey such as the Black-winged Kite, the Black Kite, the Booted Eagle and the Short-toed Eagle.
