Private Tour in the Sado Estuary

The Sado Estuary is one of the largest wetlands in Portugal and is also one of the best places for birdwatching at any time of year. It is not difficult to observe 80 species in a day and, at certain times of the year, it is even possible to reach 100 species. It is a wintering ground for many thousands of water birds and even during the breeding season around 100 species of bird’s nest there. The cork oak and pine forests shelter many species of passerine birds.

On our tour, departing from Setúbal, we will visit the north and south banks, explore the salt marshes, salt pans, rice paddies, cork oak and pine forests in search of the enormous biodiversity of the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve.

Some emblematic species: Common Merganser, Black-necked Grebe, Flamingo, Glossy Ibis, Spoonbill, Osprey, Booted Eagle, Oystercatcher, Black-winged Stilt, Avocet, Caspian Tern, Little Tern, Hoopoe, Bee-eater, Iberian Magpie, Woodchat Shrike, Yellow Wagtail, and Cirl Bunting.
