Private Birdwatching tours in the Ria Formosa

The Ria Formosa is one of the main places in Portugal for birdwatching. It is an extensive area of salt marshes, canals, salt pans, lagoons, and surrounding forests, which make up the Ria Formosa Natural Park, with a huge population of birds throughout the year.
On our tours, we will explore different habitats in order to see as many birds as possible. Emblematic are the flamingos, spoonbills, black ibis, and different species of waders, of which we highlight the abundance of the Avocet, the Black-winged Stilt, the Black-tailed Godwit, and the Oystercatcher for its striking color pattern. Also, for its intense blue color, the Western Swamphen is a highly appreciated bird, present in the lagoons of the Park.
Here you can also see the largest European population of Audouin’s gull, as well as the less abundant Slender-billed gull. In the surrounding fields and woods, we will see the Iberian Magpie, the Eurasian Hoopoe, the Iberian Grey Shrike, the Bee-eater, and the Iberian Green Woodpecker.
Our tours depart from Tavira or any other point in the Eastern Algarve. A full day will allow us to see dozens of different bird species, while also enjoying a typically mild and favorable climate for enjoying the outdoors and birds.
