The Mértola region, part of the Guadiana Valley Natural Park, is one of the richest in birdlife in Portugal.
Territory of large natural spaces with some extensive agriculture, it alternates between agricultural fields and areas of holm oaks and land covered with rockrose and wild lavander bushes, particularly close to the Guadiana river,
It is the best area in Portugal to see the Iberian imperial eagle and the best for other birds of prey such as the Bonelli’s eagle, the griffon vulture, black vulture, golden eagle, montagu’s harrier, and in the transition areas with the Castro Verde steppe , also the roller, the lesser kestrel, the great bustard, the little bustard and the black-bellied sandgrouse.
Our tours combine different habitats so that we can see the greatest possible diversity of species in a territory of great landscape richness.
