Birdwatching tours in Castro Verde

The Castro Verde plains, a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 2017, are the most important conservation area for steppe birds in Portugal and one of the most important in Europe. They are a bird sanctuary that, through the preservation of an extensive agricultural system, provides habitat and food for a varied number of species. We will be able to see great and little bustards,, black-bellied sandgrouses ,cranes, hen and montagu’s harriers, kestrels, curlews as well as the Iberian imperial eagle, the booted eagle, the short-toed eagle and other birds of prey.
Our tours departing from Castro Verde will include not only steppe habitats, but also water points and small holm oak forests, so that, by visiting various habitats, we can see the greatest number of bird species.
